Description

AutoPot - Mulch Mat – Protective Root-Zone Insulation & Algae Prevention Screen

Optimise your sub-irrigated root environment with the AutoPot Mulch Mat. Engineered specifically to fit standard 10" (250mm) and 12" (300mm) production pots, these durable, inorganic barrier mats sit cleanly on top of your substrate surface. Because AutoPot systems wick water and nutrients from the bottom up, the top layer of media can often become a hotspot for surface evaporation, mineral salt accumulation, and unsightly algae bloom. The AutoPot Mulch Mat solves this by acting as a protective shield—blocking out light to eliminate algae growth, retaining vital root-zone moisture, and acting as a thermal buffer to keep your root system insulated against extreme seasonal temperature swings.

Best For: AutoPot 2-Pot, 8-Pot, and XL standalone modules, outdoor summer greenhouse cultivation, indoor grow rooms under high-intensity lighting arrays, and crops sensitive to surface salt accumulation.

Key Features

  • Algae-Blocking Light Barrier: By completely shading the damp top layer of your growing medium, the mat deprives photosynthetic algae of the light it needs to sprout, keeping your pots clean and sanitary.
  • Advanced Surface Evaporation Control: Drastically reduces moisture loss from the top of the pot. This locks in uniform humidity throughout the substrate column and ensures your gravity-fed reservoir water goes directly into your plant rather than evaporating into the air.
  • Minimises Mineral Salt Build-Up: Bottom-fed capillary systems naturally push unabsorbed mineral salts toward the surface as water evaporates. Preventing this evaporation stalls the salt-crusting process, maintaining a stable, uniform EC level across the rhizosphere.
  • All-Season Thermal Protection: Acts as a high-performance insulating layer, keeping delicate top-running roots noticeably cooler under intense summer sun or grow lights, and warmer during chilly winter nights.
  • Clean, Inorganic Construction: Fabricated from high-quality, synthetic fibers that will not break down, rot, or harbor pests and fungal spores like traditional organic mulches (such as straw or woodchips).
  • Precision Fitted Options: Available in both 250mm (for standard 10-inch pots) and 300mm (for larger 12-inch XL pots) diameters, featuring a clean radius cutout to slide effortlessly around your plant's main stem.

Specifications & Sizing Choices

  • Brand: AutoPot
  • Product: Inorganic Surface Mulch Mat
  • Material: UV-Stabilised, Root-Safe Synthetic Fibre Matrix
  • Size Options Available:
    • 250mm Diameter: Form-fitted for standard AutoPot 10" pots (found in Hydropak & 8-Pot kits)
    • 300mm Diameter: Form-fitted for large AutoPot 12" pots (found in Single 12 / XL modules)
  • Chemical Profile: Inert, Non-Degrading, Non-Leaching

Nursery Placement & Management Tips

  • Clean Fitting: Slide the mat over your plant's canopy or wrap it gently around the base of the established stem once your seedling has been transplanted into its final 10" or 12" container. Press it flat so it makes full flush contact with the top of your **Coco Coir** or potting mix.
  • Pairing with Air-Buds or Clay Pebbles: If you utilize a top layer of **Hydro Clay LECA** to weight down your pots, place the Mulch Mat directly beneath the clay pebbles on the raw media surface for the most effective evaporation barrier.
  • Monitoring Root Migration: With the top layer remaining consistently damp and insulated under the mat, you will notice fine, healthy lateral roots migrating right up to the very surface of the media, expanding your plant's overall active feeding zone.
  • End-of-Cycle Sanitation: At harvest, remove the mat and shake loose any dried media particles. Soak the mat in a mild sterilising solution or water mixed with hydrogen peroxide to kill any lingering pathogens, rinse thoroughly with fresh water, and air-dry for your next cycle.

Ideal For (Uses)

  • High-Intensity Indoor Lighting: Shielding the media surface from intense LED or HPS arrays that dry out topsoil rapidly and create hot micro-climates in the grow tent.
  • Outdoor Greenhouse Production: Protecting heavy-fruiting summer crops like tomatoes and chillies from dramatic root-zone temperature spikes during afternoon heat waves.
  • Pest Management Protocols: Creating a physical top barrier that discourages annoying fungus gnats and shore flies from easily accessing and laying eggs in the damp top layer of media.

Shipping & Lead Times

Important Note on Availability & Shipping

Our warehouse serves as our office and logistics centre rather than a retail showroom. Because we ship from multiple locations and manage high-turnover stock, not all items are available for immediate pickup.

Lead Times:

  • In-Stock Items: Usually ready for dispatch the same day.
  • Supplier-Dependent Items: Usually take 2–8 weeks to arrive, depending on supplier availability. Products from Adloheat may take 8–12 weeks to manufacture—they are made to order in Australia by a small business, and longer lead times reflect the care put into quality.

While we strive for fast delivery, some timelines are subject to supplier availability and are beyond our control. We appreciate your patience as we source the best quality gear for your project.

Biosecurity & Interstate Shipping Restrictions

Due to strict state biosecurity regulations, we are unable to ship some products to certain states and territories:

  • Potting Mixes cannot be shipped to Western Australia (WA), the Northern Territory (NT), or Tasmania (TAS).
  • Seeds cannot be shipped to Western Australia (WA).

Orders placed for these items to restricted states will be cancelled and refunded. It is the customer's responsibility to ensure that the items being ordered can lawfully be delivered to their state or territory.
