Description

AutoPot - Smart-Valve – Demand-Driven Gravity Irrigation Float Valve

The operational core of the entire AutoPot range, the AutoPot Smart-Valve (AQUAvalve) is a revolutionary, pressure-sensitive float system engineered to automate plant watering without electricity. Unlike conventional ball-cock float valves that continuously trickle water and cause root-suffocating waterlogging, the Smart-Valve facilitates a genuine, demand-driven wet-and-dry cycle. Operating purely via gravity or pressure-reduced mains, the valve releases water into the base of a growing tray to a precise depth of approximately 35mm. It then locks tightly, completely cutting off the water supply. The valve remains closed until the plant’s root system consumes every drop of moisture in the tray via natural capillary wicking. Once the tray is dry, the valve automatically re-opens to supply a fresh dose—ensuring irrigation frequencies are dictated entirely by the plant's actual rate of consumption.

Best For: Replacing worn valves in existing AutoPot setups, building custom DIY gravity-fed sub-irrigated propagation trays, and scaling up automated multi-pot layouts.

Key Features

  • Plant-Driven Wet-and-Dry Cycles: By allowing total reduction of the fluid level before refilling, the Smart-Valve ensures the root zone experiences natural dry-back periods. This draws fresh oxygen deep into the substrate, promoting explosive root health and preventing damping-off or root rot.
  • 100% Power-Free Automation: Driven completely by gravitational fluid dynamics. Requires zero mains power, batteries, water pumps, or noisy digital timers, ensuring silent operation and total crop security during power dropouts.
  • Zero Nutrient Runoff Waste: Operates on a highly efficient closed-loop mechanism. Because water is only introduced as the plant absorbs it, every millilitre of water and dissolved fertiliser is fully utilized by the crop, dropping your commercial input costs to zero waste.
  • Bespoke DIY Adaptation: While designed as a drop-in replacement for standard AutoPot modules, the Smart-Valve can be installed into any level, watertight custom tray or reservoir, allowing hobbyists and commercial growers to build tailored, automated watering networks.
  • Precise 35mm Depth Control: Weighted and calibrated to snap shut once the water line reaches approximately 35mm. This specific depth provides the perfect head pressure to trigger capillary action up through standard propagation pots without drowning lower root caps.
  • Dual-Float Chemical Resistance: Manufactured from premium, chemically stable, ultraviolet-stabilised materials designed to withstand concentrated commercial hydroponic mineral salts and mild cleaning agents without corroding or sticking.

Installation & Maintenance Tips

  • Establishing Perfect Levels: For the Smart-Valve to operate with flawless precision, ensure the module or custom tray base sits completely flat on the floor or benching. If the valve is tilted or uneven, the internal dual floats cannot seat correctly, which may cause the valve to stick open or fail to shut off completely.
  • Gravitational Pressure Baseline: Always position the bottom of your water supply tank at least 150mm (15cm) higher than the Smart-Valve. This height provides the minimum gravitational head pressure needed to snap the valve mechanism open and shut cleanly.
  • Preventing Clogs: Always run an inline fluid filter between your main reservoir and the Smart-Valve. This stops small mineral scales, debris, or synthetic fibers from entering the narrow 4mm inlet and disrupting the silicone seal pads inside the valve nozzle.
  • Cleaning Protocol: At the end of every crop cycle, pop the top float out of the valve housing and wipe down the internal seats with warm, soapy water or a mild sterilising wash. Ensure the small silicone pads are clean, supple, and free from salt crusting before clipping the floats back into place.

Ideal For (Uses)

  • Bespoke DIY Sub-Irrigation: Plumb the valve into a large greenhouse flood tray filled with a collection of fabric pots, allowing a whole block of plants to drink on demand from a single valve.
  • System Maintenance: Keeping a handy backup unit on your nursery tool shelf to swap out older, heavily weathered valves without delaying your active production run.
  • Hobby Hydroponics: Providing a silent, worry-free solution for watering precious individual balcony or greenhouse container crops like tomatoes, chillies, and large ornamentals.

Shipping & Lead Times

Important Note on Availability & Shipping

Our warehouse serves as our office and logistics centre rather than a retail showroom. Because we ship from multiple locations and manage high-turnover stock, not all items are available for immediate pickup.

Lead Times:

  • In-Stock Items: Usually ready for dispatch the same day.
  • Supplier-Dependent Items: Usually take 2–8 weeks to arrive, depending on supplier availability. Products from Adloheat may take 8–12 weeks to manufacture—they are made to order in Australia by a small business, and longer lead times reflect the care put into quality.

While we strive for fast delivery, some timelines are subject to supplier availability and are beyond our control. We appreciate your patience as we source the best quality gear for your project.

Biosecurity & Interstate Shipping Restrictions

Due to strict state biosecurity regulations, we are unable to ship some products to certain states and territories:

  • Potting Mixes cannot be shipped to Western Australia (WA), the Northern Territory (NT), or Tasmania (TAS).
  • Seeds cannot be shipped to Western Australia (WA).

Orders placed for these items to restricted states will be cancelled and refunded. It is the customer's responsibility to ensure that the items being ordered can lawfully be delivered to their state or territory.
