Description

Targeted Fruit Fly Hanging Bottle Trap - Bactrocera Species Control

The Targeted Fruit Fly Trap is a purpose-built hanging bottle system specifically engineered to control and monitor damaging Bactrocera species fruit flies, including the highly destructive Queensland Fruit Fly. Simple yet incredibly effective, this trap utilises an irresistible scent lure to draw flying pests inside, ensuring they are captured securely before they can sting and ruin your valuable fruit and crops. By filling the trap with a recommended fruit fly attractant (sold separately), you create an efficient one-way physical barrier where flies are attracted by the scent, enter the chamber, but are entirely unable to escape.

Optimised for both commercial agriculture and backyard gardens, this trap serves as a critical first line of defence in any integrated pest management strategy. The durable, weather-resistant housing ensures the liquid attractant remains protected from rain dilution while allowing the scent plume to disperse efficiently through the surrounding tree canopy.

Best For: Commercial fruit growers, home gardeners, orchard managers, and pest control professionals requiring a targeted, non-toxic monitoring and control solution for Bactrocera species fruit flies in fruit trees, vegetable patches, and near susceptible high-value crops.

Key Features:

  • Targeted Bactrocera Control: Specifically designed to attract and trap destructive fruit fly species, heavily targeting the aggressive Queensland Fruit Fly (Bactrocera tryoni).
  • Irresistible Scent-Based Lure System: Works by drawing fruit flies to the attractant scent, ensuring highly effective capture before they have the opportunity to lay eggs in your developing produce.
  • One-Way Escape Prevention: The clever funnel-style entry design allows easy access for the pest but completely blocks their exit path, ensuring captured flies drown in the liquid attractant basin.
  • Hanging Bottle Format: Includes a sturdy, integrated hanging loop mechanism for easy suspension from tree branches, vineyard posts, or shade structures within the affected fruiting zone.
  • Reusable and Durable: Built from tough agricultural plastics designed to be easily emptied, cleaned, refilled, and reused across multiple growing seasons, providing a highly cost-effective pest management solution.

Primary Cultivation & Field Applications

  • Commercial Orchard Management: Monitoring and controlling fruit fly populations in high-density fruit-growing zones to prevent mass crop loss.
  • Backyard Fruit Tree Protection: Shielding home-grown fruit trees, such as vulnerable stone fruit, apples, and citrus, from devastating fruit fly sting damage.
  • Integrated Pest Management (IPM): Acting as an early warning monitoring station to accurately gauge pest pressure before applying secondary organic or chemical treatments.

Pro Tip & Optimal Trap Placement: For maximum efficacy, deploy your hanging traps early in the spring before the fruit begins to ripen and colour. Hang the bottle in a shaded section of the tree canopy, roughly 1.5 to 2 metres off the ground, as Queensland Fruit Flies prefer sheltered foliage over direct, intense sunlight.

Remember to monitor the liquid levels weekly, removing any dead insects to keep the scent profile strong, and top up the attractant as it naturally evaporates during hot summer weather.

Shipping & Lead Times

Important Note on Availability & Shipping

Our warehouse serves as our office and logistics centre rather than a retail showroom. Because we ship from multiple locations and manage high-turnover stock, not all items are available for immediate pickup.

Lead Times:

  • In-Stock Items: Usually ready for dispatch the same day.
  • Supplier-Dependent Items: Usually take 2–8 weeks to arrive, depending on supplier availability. Products from Adloheat may take 8–12 weeks to manufacture—they are made to order in Australia by a small business, and longer lead times reflect the care put into quality.

While we strive for fast delivery, some timelines are subject to supplier availability and are beyond our control. We appreciate your patience as we source the best quality gear for your project.

Biosecurity & Interstate Shipping Restrictions

Due to strict state biosecurity regulations, we are unable to ship some products to certain states and territories:

  • Potting Mixes cannot be shipped to Western Australia (WA), the Northern Territory (NT), or Tasmania (TAS).
  • Seeds cannot be shipped to Western Australia (WA).

Orders placed for these items to restricted states will be cancelled and refunded. It is the customer's responsibility to ensure that the items being ordered can lawfully be delivered to their state or territory.
