Description

Professor’s Nutrients - Coco Chips Blend (50/50) – High-Drainage & Anti-Compaction Substrate (50L)

Engineered for growers who demand the absolute maximum level of root zone aeration without sacrificing moisture retention, Professor’s Nutrients Coco Chips Blend is a premium commercial substrate. This unique mix consists of an optimized 50% premium loose Coco Coir and 50% coarse Coco Chips—small, chunky sections of coconut husk that perfectly bridge the gap between peat and structural fibre. Acting like miniature sponges, these robust chips absorb vast amounts of water and dissolved nutrients while inherently resisting compaction. The resulting open matrix creates massive air pockets, facilitating exceptional drainage and allowing root networks to expand with total freedom.

Best For: High-frequency automated irrigation, multi-year crops, heavy-draining run-to-waste systems, and large container pots where media compaction and waterlogging are constant risks.

Key Features

  • Chunky 50/50 Anti-Compaction Formula: Combining equal parts fine coco coir and coarse coco chips creates a structured, highly porous root zone that will not settle, slump, or compact over long crop cycles.
  • Sponge-Like Nutrient Retention: The internal cellular structure of the coco chips absorbs water and liquid fertilizers deep inside the husk material, keeping moisture available to the plant while keeping the outer root zone highly aerated.
  • Superior Root Penetration: By eliminating tight compaction zones, roots can effortlessly push through the substrate, leading to a more expansive, dense, and energetic root system.
  • High-Volume Air Porosity: The irregular shapes of the large chunks naturally form macro-porous air channels. This continuous supply of oxygen to the rhizosphere drives rapid vegetative growth and enhances total nutrient uptake.
  • Washed & Pre-Buffered Baseline: Undergoes a strict, chemical-free washing and buffering process to purge excess sodium and potassium. Cation exchange sites are fully charged with Calcium and Magnesium to completely prevent early-stage nutrient lockout.
  • Excellent Structural Longevity: Unlike perlite which can float to the top of the pot over time, coco chips remain evenly distributed from the top to the bottom of the container, ensuring uniform drainage for the life of the plant.

Irrigation & Substrate Management Tips

  • The Run-to-Waste Advantage: Because this 50/50 blend drains so exceptionally well, it is almost impossible to over-water. It is perfectly adapted for automated drip systems where you can feed multiple times a day to push your plants to their biological limits.
  • Flushing Mineral Salts: Maintain a strict 10–20% runoff target during each liquid feed. The coarse chips hold onto clean moisture, and the runoff ensures that any old, concentrated mineral salts are swept out of the large air channels.
  • Perfect Orchid & Aroid Media: Beyond traditional hydroponic crops, this coarse blend is highly sought after as a premium standalone medium or potting amendment for moisture-loving but air-demanding plants like monsteras, anthuriums, and orchids.
  • Nutrient Pairing: Always pair this medium with a high-quality, 2-part **Coco Specific Nutrient** regimen to maintain the essential Calcium-to-Magnesium balance required by the coco substrate.

Ideal For (Uses)

  • Automated Commercial Hydroponics: Providing a long-lasting, stable substrate for large-scale, automated drip-irrigated facilities.
  • Long-Term Mother Plants: Keeping mother plants healthy for months or years in the same pot without the medium breaking down or suffocating the root ball.
  • Premium Soil Amendment: Mixing into dense, heavy organic garden beds to break up heavy clay and instantly introduce lasting aeration and moisture-holding pockets.

Shipping & Lead Times

Important Note on Availability & Shipping

Our warehouse serves as our office and logistics centre rather than a retail showroom. Because we ship from multiple locations and manage high-turnover stock, not all items are available for immediate pickup.

Lead Times:

  • In-Stock Items: Usually ready for dispatch the same day.
  • Supplier-Dependent Items: Usually take 2–8 weeks to arrive, depending on supplier availability. Products from Adloheat may take 8–12 weeks to manufacture—they are made to order in Australia by a small business, and longer lead times reflect the care put into quality.

While we strive for fast delivery, some timelines are subject to supplier availability and are beyond our control. We appreciate your patience as we source the best quality gear for your project.

Biosecurity & Interstate Shipping Restrictions

Due to strict state biosecurity regulations, we are unable to ship some products to certain states and territories:

  • Potting Mixes cannot be shipped to Western Australia (WA), the Northern Territory (NT), or Tasmania (TAS).
  • Seeds cannot be shipped to Western Australia (WA).

Orders placed for these items to restricted states will be cancelled and refunded. It is the customer's responsibility to ensure that the items being ordered can lawfully be delivered to their state or territory.
